NEW CASTLE, Del. — Authorities have arrested two suspects in connection with a violent incident that occurred last month at a grocery store, where an employee was assaulted by a group of individuals. The unsettling confrontation took place at a Food Lion on June 20, involving multiple assailants.
Delaware State Police responded to a report of the attack around 1:30 p.m. at the supermarket located on Beaverbrook Plaza. An 18-year-old cashier was allegedly assaulted by a group of eight suspects, six of whom physically attacked him with punches and kicks as he stood at his register. Eyewitness accounts and surveillance video indicated that one person in the group held a baby, while another recorded the assault on a phone.
As the attack unfolded, the victim was reportedly knocked to the ground and lost consciousness amid the ongoing violence. Witnesses noted that one assailant threatened to return and kill the cashier as the group fled the scene. The suspects left the store in two vehicles, identified as a dark Nissan Murano and a dark Ford Taurus, both registered in Delaware.
Following a thorough investigation, law enforcement identified 19-year-old Christian Broaddus from New Castle and 20-year-old Khanasia Nash from Wilmington as participants in the attack. Warrants for their arrest were issued shortly thereafter.
Broaddus voluntarily turned himself in to police on June 27. He faces multiple serious charges, including felony second-degree assault, felony conspiracy, and terroristic threatening. After an arraignment at Justice of the Peace Court 2, he was held at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a cash bond set at $17,100.
Nash also surrendered to authorities, doing so at the same facility on July 15. She faces similar charges as Broaddus and was subsequently released after posting a secured bond of $6,600.
The investigation is ongoing, and law enforcement has not disclosed the identities of the other individuals involved in the assault. Authorities continue to seek information from the public about the incident and encourage anyone with details to come forward.
Both defendants maintain their presumption of innocence until proven guilty. This incident has raised concerns about safety in community spaces, prompting discussions on preventive measures to protect workers and patrons alike.
