Pune, India — In a dramatic midnight operation, a police team, including a Deputy Commissioner, was violently assaulted by robbers at Kendur Ghat in Pune’s Khed taluka. The confrontation occurred under the jurisdiction of the Chakan police station and resulted in serious injuries to high-ranking officials and the arrest of two known criminals.
Authorities detailed that Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr. Shivaji Pawar and Sub-Inspector Prasanna Jarad sustained severe injuries during the altercation. Dr. Pawar suffered machete wounds to his chest and back, while Jarad’s elbow was gravely injured. Both are currently receiving medical care at a local private hospital.
The event unfolded when police received intelligence about a planned robbery in Chinchoshi village, leading to Dr. Pawar overseeing a strategic operation to intercept the criminals at Kendur Ghat. The suspects, upon confrontation, resorted to violence, attacking the officers with machetes and knives.
In the ensuing chaos, another Deputy Commissioner of Police, Sachin Bhosale, responded by firing at the attackers, hitting one in the leg. The injured suspect was identified as Sachin Chandar Bhosale, who, along with his brother Mithun Bhosale, was detained at the scene. Sachin Bhosale is currently under medical care at Sassoon Hospital.
The police noted that both Sachin and Mithun Bhosale have a history of criminal activities, with nine registered cases against them. Their violent reaction during the operation underscores the growing challenges law enforcement faces from repeat offenders.
This incident follows a recent robbery where six individuals invaded the home of an elderly couple in Bahul, a village within the same police jurisdiction, robbing them at knifepoint. They escaped with cash and valuable gold ornaments, highlighting a spree of organized criminal activities in the region.
The police are pursuing leads to capture an additional accomplice who managed to escape during the confrontation. This incident highlights the risks police officers face and the lengths to which they go to uphold law and order.
Local authorities commend the bravery of the officers involved and have vowed to intensify efforts against such recidivist criminals to secure the area. The community has been urged to cooperate and report any suspicious activity to help deter future crimes and bring perpetrators to justice.
