LONDON (AP) — A series of tragic incidents in London on Tuesday, January 9 left the city in shock as three people lost their lives and several others were injured. The violent wave of crime swept across different locations in the city, from Twickenham in South West London to Edmonton in the North East.
Emergency responders, including the British Transport Police, London’s Air Ambulance, Metropolitan Police, and London Ambulance Service, rushed to each incident. The disturbing series of events resulted in two fatalities from stabbings and a woman killed in a car crash. In addition, more people sustained serious injuries in various incidents, including a motorbike crash on the A13 and a shooting.
At Strawberry Hill railway station, a double stabbing occurred, leading to the death of a man in his 20s. Despite the efforts of paramedics, the man died at the scene, and a 16-year-old boy nearby was found with a leg laceration. Several arrests were made in connection to the incident.
On Old Kent Road, another man was stabbed and killed early in the morning, and two people were arrested in relation to the incident. Homicide detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
In Mitcham, South London, a man was shot in broad daylight and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Shortly after the shooting, three men carrying machetes were arrested in the vicinity, although it is uncertain whether the two incidents are linked.
A motorcyclist remains in critical condition after a crash on the A13 at Beckton Flyover, and a woman was killed in a hit-and-run on a busy North East London road. The driver of the car involved in the hit-and-run did not stop for police.
The incidents have left the city reeling, with various investigations ongoing in the wake of the tragic day. The Metropolitan Police have urged anyone with information to come forward, and the community is left grappling with the aftermath of the violent events.
