West Palm Beach Man Faces Multiple Charges After Allegedly Using Dog in Domestic Assault Over Chores Dispute

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — A 28-year-old man faces serious charges after an alleged violent incident involving a female victim escalated from a domestic dispute to physical abuse, including the involvement of his pet dog. Claudy Mendes was arrested by the West Palm Beach Police Department following a May 1 altercation that has drawn significant attention due to its alarming nature.

Authorities report that the conflict originated from a disagreement about household chores. As tensions rose, Mendes reportedly used extreme measures against the victim, who has chosen to remain anonymous. According to the police affidavit, Mendes is accused of punching the victim multiple times, choking her, and threatening her life. In an unusual twist, he allegedly released his French Bulldog, commanding it to attack her during the assault.

Further details reveal that Mendes allegedly continued the assault, striking and biting the victim as the dog joined in. In a desperate attempt to escape, she reportedly tried to exit through a window and sought refuge from nearby neighbors. Upon arrival, officers found the victim in a distressed state, visibly injured and bleeding from her face. Medical assessments revealed she had multiple injuries, including swelling, lacerations, and bite marks.

In a statement to police, the victim provided a graphic depiction of the violence she endured, highlighting Mendes’ threatening behavior. Mendes, however, has denied the allegations, asserting that the victim’s actions were erratic and that he did not engage in the behavior she described.

Legal repercussions for Mendes are significant. He faces charges of false imprisonment, aggravated child abuse, domestic battery with strangulation, tampering with a witness, and robbery without a weapon. Following his arrest, he is scheduled to appear in court, where the case will be further examined.

In light of the severity of the allegations, the victim has the choice to be notified about Mendes’ potential release from custody. This case underscores ongoing concerns regarding domestic violence, highlighting the need for community awareness and support systems for victims.

As law enforcement continues to address such incidents, local officials urge individuals experiencing domestic abuse to seek help and report their situations promptly.
