Winston-Salem, NC – A local man has been taken into custody and charged with the murder of a 37-year-old man in an incident that occurred earlier in the month, sparking renewed concerns over community safety and gun violence in the area.
Thirty-one-year-old Jake Tywone Gainey IV was arrested by a collaboration of U.S. Marshals and a tactical SWAT team during a morning operation on Lasmit Drive. The arrest took place without incident at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Friday.
Authorities have identified the victim as Rashad Akeem Sims, also from Winston-Salem. The devastating shooting, which led to Sims’ untimely death, happened late at night on June 10 in the vicinity of Eltha Drive.
