Woman Arrested After Child’s Insult Sparks In-Flight Incident

SANFORD, FL – A Memorial Day flight from Orlando Sanford International Airport turned chaotic when a woman allegedly assaulted a child, prompting her arrest on charges of felony child abuse. The incident unfolded on Allegiant flight 2885, bound for Hagerstown, Maryland, just as the aircraft prepared for takeoff.

Christy Lee Crampton, the accused, had been returning from a family vacation at Disney World. However, instead of heading home, she found herself in front of a Seminole County judge on Tuesday. The arrest report details a confrontation that began when a child reportedly taunted Crampton with derogatory remarks, calling her “fat” and “Miss Piggy” and suggesting she couldn’t fit in the airplane seat.

Witnesses on board claimed that Crampton reacted violently, striking the child with her fist and hitting his head with a water bottle. The situation escalated further when she allegedly slammed the child’s head against the airplane window. The child, whose age has not been disclosed, attempted to shield his head with his arms.

Crampton defended her actions to the police, stating that the child’s behavior had been rude and disrespectful throughout their Disney trip. She also claimed that after the child insulted her, she confiscated his phone, which led to a physical altercation where the child pushed her arm off the armrest twice.

Despite her explanations, witnesses and police described her actions as exceeding acceptable disciplinary measures. One witness emphasized that Crampton was not merely correcting the child but was engaging in abusive behavior. Due to the location of the incident, the FBI was informed as it occurred within an airport setting.

A Seminole County judge set Crampton’s bond at $10,000. The incident has sparked discussions about appropriate conduct and discipline on public transportation, especially involving children.
