Police detained Kayla Wynita Rodgers at the scene after Krystal Jordan was fatally wounded at a south Houston home.
HOUSTON, Texas — A 28-year-old woman has been charged with manslaughter after Houston rapper Krystal Jordan, who performed as Judy World, was fatally stabbed Saturday at a home on the city’s south side, police said.
Kayla Wynita Rodgers is charged in the 338th Criminal District Court in connection with Jordan’s death. Houston police said officers were called to 11927 Bat Sheva Lane at about 9:55 a.m. July 11 and found a bystander providing first aid to a wounded woman. Houston Fire Department paramedics took Jordan to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Police said Rodgers remained at the scene and was detained without incident. Investigators consulted the Harris County District Attorney’s Office before arresting her and filing the manslaughter charge. Rodgers was later booked into the Harris County Jail, according to local reports.
Rodgers is accused of stabbing Jordan in the leg, according to court information reported by Houston news outlets. Authorities have not publicly explained what happened before the stabbing or released a detailed account of the encounter. No motive has been announced.
Jordan was 28 and was known to listeners as Judy World and Play Girl Judy. Family members and friends identified her publicly after Houston police initially withheld the victim’s name while awaiting formal family notification.
Jordan’s mother, Keia Jordan, told FOX 26 that Rodgers is the sister of Jordan’s boyfriend. That relationship has not been detailed in the Houston Police Department’s public statement. Keia Jordan said the family believes the case should result in a murder charge rather than the manslaughter count currently filed.
The family’s request does not change the charge pending against Rodgers. Prosecutors determine what charges to pursue based on available evidence and applicable law, while a court will decide whether the allegations have been proved. Rodgers is accused of a crime and has not been convicted.
Houston police have not announced whether investigators are seeking additional witnesses or evidence. The department’s initial release did not describe an argument, identify a suspected motive or say whether anyone else was involved in the confrontation.
Relatives said Jordan leaves behind a 10-year-old daughter. The family has established an online fundraiser to help support the child and cover needs following Jordan’s death.
The investigation remains active, and authorities have not announced any additional arrests or changes to the charge. Rodgers’ case is assigned to the 338th Criminal District Court.
