Deputies detained two people as detectives continued reviewing the deadly Miami-Dade case.
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A woman died after Miami-Dade deputies found her shot in the chest Tuesday afternoon in the West Little River neighborhood, authorities said.
The shooting brought a heavy law enforcement response to Northwest 22 Avenue and 90 Street, where deputies blocked streets, marked evidence and questioned people nearby. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said the woman was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center before she died.
Deputies said the woman was bleeding shortly after 1:35 p.m. near the intersection. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews rushed her to the trauma center as deputies secured the area. A man and a woman were detained during the investigation, but officials had not announced charges or released the victim’s name.
Investigators closed Northwest 90 Street from Northwest 22 Avenue to Northwest 21 Avenue while crime scene tape stretched across the block. Within the taped area, a yellow evidence marker sat near a resin plastic high-back chair. Deputies in marked and unmarked vehicles remained at the scene as detectives worked to determine what led to the shooting.
Residents told Local 10 News that people in the neighborhood had raised concerns about crime in the area before Tuesday’s shooting. Some said they had asked deputies to “shut the corner down,” citing repeated trouble near the block. Authorities did not say whether earlier complaints were tied to the shooting.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office has not said who fired the shot, what weapon was used or whether the detained man and woman were suspects or witnesses. Detectives continued gathering statements and reviewing evidence from the scene.
The case remained under investigation Wednesday, with no public arrest announcement. Officials asked anyone with information to contact Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers.
