A probable cause affidavit describes a domestic dispute that spilled outside a Meadow Bend Lane home Sunday afternoon.
INDIANAPOLIS — A man was arrested Sunday after a woman was shot outside a house in the 8100 block of Meadow Bend Lane, according to Indianapolis Metropolitan Police and court records reviewed Monday. The afternoon shooting followed a reported family disturbance; the woman later died at a hospital.
The case moved quickly from a 2:17 p.m. 911 call to a vehicle stop and arrest on the south side, based on descriptions relayed by witnesses and family members, the affidavit states. Detectives say the dispute began inside the residence and escalated as it reached the driveway, where multiple shots were fired. Four children were present, according to the filing. The document says officers recovered shell casings in the home and outside, and later seized a handgun found in the suspect’s vehicle for testing, a routine step in homicide investigations.
In the affidavit, investigators write that the suspect left in a gray pickup before patrol units arrived, prompting an alert to nearby officers. A traffic stop near Thompson Road and Lakesedge Boulevard ended with the driver detained without incident. Detectives transported him to the homicide office, where he requested an attorney. The coroner will release the woman’s name after confirming her identity and notifying relatives. The relationship between the two is described as domestic; ages were not immediately released by police on Sunday.
The residence sits near Shelbyville Road and East Stop 11 Road on the city’s southeast side, a cluster of cul-de-sacs where weekend traffic is light and many homes have doorbell cameras. Officers canvassed for video through the evening, asking neighbors for clips that might capture the pickup’s direction of travel or audio of the shots. Technicians with the department’s crime lab photographed the driveway and collected .380-caliber casings, according to the affidavit, which also lists a compact handgun taken from the pickup as evidence pending ballistics comparison.
Domestic-related killings have accounted for a significant portion of recent Indianapolis homicides, a trend police leadership has noted in prior year-end briefings. In those cases, investigators often rely on statements from family members who witnessed the violence and electronic records such as 911 audio, phone location data and camera footage to reconstruct the timeline. Sunday’s shooting fits that pattern. Detectives are building a minute-by-minute chronology from the first call to the arrest and are checking for any prior calls to the address.
The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will decide on charges after reviewing the case file, which police expect to submit this week. If charges are filed, a court will set an initial hearing and release a detailed probable cause narrative. The coroner’s autopsy is expected to confirm the cause and manner of death and may be referenced in charging documents. Police said additional information, including the victim’s name and age, would be released after next of kin are notified. No further public briefings were scheduled as of Monday afternoon.
By nightfall Sunday, the block had reopened to traffic. A neighbor said two sharp pops drew her to the window moments before patrol cars filled the street. Another resident described officers moving children away from the driveway as medics arrived. Hours later, a single cruiser remained at the address while detectives finished mapping the scene and tow trucks removed the pickup linked to the arrest for evidence processing.
