CHEVY CHASE, Md. — A woman died and a man was injured after fire tore through a house in Chevy Chase early Friday, drawing Montgomery County fire and police crews to the 4700 block of Merivale Road around daybreak.
Officials said the woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while the man was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The fire also forced a major emergency response as crews worked to control flames in the home, check for anyone still inside and begin the first stage of an investigation into how the blaze started.
The emergency call came in shortly before 6 a.m., according to local authorities, who said firefighters were sent to the residential block of Merivale Road in Chevy Chase after a house fire was reported. By the time crews arrived, the fire had spread through parts of the single-family home. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service moved quickly to search the house and remove victims. A woman was later pronounced dead at the scene. A man was transported for treatment, and officials said his injuries were not life-threatening.
