Yoga Ad Trap Leads to Arrest of Kaitlin Armstrong for Murder of Cyclist Anna Moriah Wilson in Costa Rica

AUSTIN, Texas – Kaitlin Armstrong, a fugitive wanted for the murder of professional cyclist Anna Moriah “Mo” Wilson, eluded authorities by hiding in Costa Rica. She made the mistake of responding to an ad for a yoga teacher, which ultimately led to her arrest and conviction. Armstrong was found guilty and sentenced to 90 years in prison for the fatal shooting of Wilson, who was found dead on May 11, 2022.

Armstrong’s motive for the murder was rooted in a love triangle involving her boyfriend, Colin Strickland, and Wilson. Prosecutors revealed that Armstrong was jealous of Wilson for dating her boyfriend for a few weeks when they had briefly broken up in October 2021. This jealousy escalated to a deadly outcome, shocking the cycling community and drawing international attention to the case.

After the killing, Armstrong used a fake passport to flee to Costa Rica, where she managed to evade authorities for weeks. U.S. Marshals, determined to apprehend Armstrong, went undercover, befriending locals and attending various yoga classes in the area she was believed to be hiding. With little success in locating Armstrong, investigators resorted to placing an ad on social media, hoping to appeal to her love of yoga. This tactic finally led to Armstrong’s arrest when she responded to the ad and arranged to meet a Marshal at a hostel near Santa Teresa Beach. She was taken into custody, ending a weekslong manhunt.

Following her arrest, Armstrong made an attempt to escape while being held at the Travis County Correctional Complex in Del Valle, Texas. Despite that, she was apprehended by local police shortly after breaking free. The case of Armstrong’s arrest and conviction serves as a cautionary tale, highlighting the lengths law enforcement will go to in pursuit of justice.
