Arrest Made in Violent Attack on Woman in Reno County

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Authorities in Reno County are currently investigating a violent attack on a woman that resulted in a significant arrest. The incident unfolded just before 5 p.m. on Friday, prompting law enforcement to respond to a residence on North Arthur Street in Hutchinson following reports of a stabbing.

Upon arrival, first responders discovered a woman with life-threatening injuries. The victim was promptly transported to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center before being transferred to a hospital in Wichita, where she is currently in serious but stable condition. A suspect, identified as Joseph D. Castorena, aged 41 and a resident of Hutchinson, was taken into custody around 3 a.m. on Saturday.

Castorena faces charges of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Sexual Battery, and Parole Violation. Authorities note that Castorena has a history of convictions including robbery, counterfeiting, aggravated battery, aiding a felon, criminal possession of a firearm, and drug offenses, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections records.
