Assaulted Woman Found Unconscious on Coffs Harbour Walking Track, Police Increase Patrols

Coffs Harbour, Australia – Police have stepped up patrols in Coffs Harbour on the New South Wales Mid North Coast following a series of violent assaults in the area. These incidents included the assault of a 45-year-old woman who was found unconscious on a popular walking track after being attacked during an early morning walk. The unidentified male offender remains at large.

The recent assault is part of a string of crimes in the region, including the stabbing murder of 21-year-old surfer Kye Schaefer and a violent robbery. Notably, a man has been arrested in connection to the robbery, but no one has been apprehended for Schaefer’s murder. Local law enforcement has increased its presence in the area to reassure the public and gather information to prevent further incidents.

The 45-year-old woman was discovered in a semi-conscious state several hours after the attack had occurred. Detective Chief Inspector Guy Flaherty expressed concern over the length of time the victim lay unaided, emphasizing the need for witnesses to come forward with any information they may have. Police believe the woman was targeted by an unknown assailant while she sat near a rope swing at Coffs Creek to watch the sunrise.

Although the victim has been discharged from Coffs Harbour Hospital, the investigation into the assault continues. Authorities are urging anyone who may have been in the area between the hours of 6:00am and 10:20am on the day of the attack to contact Crimestoppers with any relevant information. Chief Inspector Flaherty emphasized the importance of community cooperation in solving the case and ensuring the safety of residents in the area.

In response to these incidents, police are working to reassure the public and enhance safety measures in Coffs Harbour. While the assault on the 45-year-old woman, the murder of Kye Schaefer, and the robbery are not believed to be connected, authorities are taking proactive steps to prevent further violence in the community. Efforts to increase public confidence and visibility of law enforcement remain a priority for Coffs Clarence Police District as they investigate these troubling occurrences.
