Bond Reduction Requested by Parents Charged in Connection to Twins’ Death in Texas

Houston, Texas – A couple facing charges in the death of their twin infants made a plea for lower bond during a court appearance on Monday. Angelina Belinda Calderon and Fernando Vega, both 21 years old, are accused of causing serious bodily harm to their 5-week-old twins back in October 2023.

During the court hearing, the attorneys representing the couple requested a reduction in their $750,000 bond for each case. Calderon’s bond reduction hearing is scheduled for Friday, while Vega’s hearing is set for late May.

The tragic incident unfolded when Houston Police Department patrol officers responded to a home in the 2100 block of Linden Creek Lane after relatives found the twins, named Massail and Mirena Vega, unresponsive in their crib. The infants, born prematurely, were discovered by their father, Fernando Vega, who attempted CPR but unfortunately, both babies did not survive.

Subsequent investigations revealed disturbing details – the infants were found with discolored skin, bruises, and fractures. Autopsy results confirmed that the cause of death was multiple injuries inflicted by a blunt object. Shockingly, the twins had not received medical check-ups since leaving the hospital.

Family members raised concerns about potential abuse, revealing past incidents of domestic violence involving Vega. Despite claims of being a caring mother, suspicions surrounding Calderon’s involvement in the neglect of the infants grew, especially as evidence of malnourishment and older injuries surfaced.

As the legal proceedings continue, the community awaits answers and justice for the tragic loss of the twin infants. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting vulnerable children and holding individuals accountable for their actions.
