The chaos erupted on the Meet Nagar flyover in northeast Delhi around midday on Tuesday, as the assailant, identified as Mukesh Kumar, began firing shots without warning.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Dinesh Sharma, who was on his motorcycle at the time, tragically succumbed to a bullet wound to his chest. Despite being rushed to GTB Hospital, he was pronounced dead upon arrival. Meanwhile, a 30-year-old man named Amit Kumar, who was also on the flyover riding a two-wheeler, sustained a gunshot wound to his waist during the terrifying ordeal.
After the shootings, Mukesh Kumar attempted to flee the scene by hijacking an auto-rickshaw. In a harrowing turn of events, he fired at the auto driver, Mehmood, who narrowly escaped by jumping out of the vehicle. Subsequently, Mukesh turned the gun on himself and took his own life while inside the auto-rickshaw.
Law enforcement recovered a 7.65 mm pistol from the passenger seat of the auto-rickshaw, along with numerous live rounds and spent shells scattered at different locations on the flyover.
