Double Murderer Sentenced to Death in Wayanad Court

Wayanad, India: The Wayanad Additional District and Session Court has handed down a sentence to Arjun, who was convicted in the Nelliyambam double murder case. Arjun was found guilty of fatally attacking retired physical education teacher Keshavan Nair and his wife Padmavati during a failed robbery attempt. The court has declared capital punishment for Arjun in connection with the crime that occurred on June 10, 2021.

Initially, authorities believed that a two-member gang was responsible for the brutal killing of the elderly couple. However, a forensic examination conclusively established Arjun’s involvement in the heinous act. Arjun, who typically worked in hotels and resorts in Bengaluru and Chennai, had returned home during the lockdown. On the day of the murder, he was observed working on a plantation until 6 pm. Meanwhile, Nair, a former physical education teacher in schools located in Panamaram and Neevaram, was the victim in this tragic event.

Upon investigation, it was revealed that Arjun made an unsuccessful attempt to break into the couple’s home by tampering with the rear window’s bars. When Nair spotted him through the window, Arjun resorted to knocking on the front door to divert his attention. Subsequently, while Nair stepped outside to inspect, Arjun seized the opportunity to enter the house and conceal himself in a room.

In a sequence of events, Arjun accidentally made a noise while moving about in the dark, alerting Nair to his presence. In the commotion that ensued, Nair confronted Arjun, prompting the latter to resort to violence in an attempt to flee. Tragically, Padmavati, who had followed her husband into the room, also fell victim to Arjun’s vicious attack. Despite not intending to cause harm initially, Arjun’s actions resulted in the fatal stabbings of both victims. Realizing the severity of the situation, Arjun abandoned his robbery endeavor and fled the scene.
