Driver drives 18-wheeler into Texas DPS office after CDL renewal denial

BRENHAM, Texas – A tragic incident unfolded in Brenham, Texas, as one person lost their life and 13 others sustained injuries when a man commandeered an 18-wheeler and crashed it into a Texas Department of Public Safety office on Friday. The Texas DPS office, located off Highway 290 in Brenham, became the scene of chaos and devastation following the unexpected collision.

Sgt. Justin Reese of the Texas DPS revealed that the perpetrator, identified as Clenard Parker, 42, had stolen the large truck from Chappell Hill, a nearby area, prompting law enforcement to chase after him on Highway 290. Despite attempts to stop him, Parker plowed through the DPS office, causing mayhem and endangering the lives of those inside.

The impact of the crash resulted in injuries to all 14 individuals present in the building. Tragically, one person succumbed to their injuries after being flown to the hospital. While three others required ambulance transport, eight were treated at the scene and released. Miraculously, the suspect, Parker, emerged unscathed from the violent ordeal.

Mayor Atwood Kenjura of Brenham commended the swift response of first responders, preventing further harm as Parker attempted a second crash. The seriousness of the situation is underscored by the fact that had Parker succeeded, the outcome could have been catastrophic. Parker’s motive appeared to stem from a prior denial the day before, when he was informed he could not renew his Commercial Driver’s License at the Brenham DPS office.

The incident has now turned into a criminal investigation led by the Texas Rangers, as Parker faces multiple felony charges. Despite a history of previous arrests, no violent criminal cases have been linked to him. Information from a family member sheds light on Parker’s personal life, revealing he has a son who does not reside with him. The community of Brenham is left reeling from the senseless violence that transpired within the walls of the Texas DPS office.
