Leamington, Warwickshire – A violent hammer attack orchestrated by a baby-faced thug, Jake Coop, alongside a teenage accomplice, resulted in a five-year custodial sentence for Coop. The 19-year-old from River Close, Leamington, pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm and possessing an offensive weapon. The duo, including a 16-year-old who cannot be named, had planned the attack with intentions of stabbing their victim. The violent altercation took place on Tapping Way when the victim and his friends were confronted by Coop and the 16-year-old.
During the incident, Coop viciously struck the victim with a hammer, causing severe injuries. The 16-year-old brandished a large Rambo knife and pursued one of the victim’s friends. Following the assault, the attackers fled on bicycles as bystanders witnessed the alarming scene. Shortly after the attack, the victim collapsed and experienced seizures, leading his friends to call for emergency medical assistance. He was subsequently placed in an induced coma at a hospital, but fortunately, a CT scan revealed no critical damage to his brain.
Law enforcement acted swiftly, detaining the 16-year-old at his residence in Rugby, and Coop voluntarily turned himself in at Leamington Police Station. Subsequently, both perpetrators were charged and appeared before Warwick Crown Court. The court sentenced Coop to five years in custody for his role in the assault and possession of an offensive weapon. The 16-year-old was given a four-year custodial sentence for possessing a bladed article.
