Chattanooga, Tennessee – As summer approaches, state officials are warning hikers to exercise caution after a recent rise in hiking-related deaths across the country. The victims, spanning various ages and locations, highlight the importance of taking safety measures when venturing outdoors.
In a tragic series of incidents, different hikers lost their lives in various states, including Utah, Georgia, New Jersey, and Tennessee. These incidents serve as a somber reminder that outdoor activities can turn deadly if proper precautions are not taken.
In Tennessee, two close friends, Greffania Merilus, 23, and Gulson Elve, 20, tragically drowned while hiking on Rainbow Falls Trail. Merilus fell into a fast-moving creek, prompting Elve to dive in to rescue her. Despite efforts from first responders, both individuals lost their lives in the attempt.
Similarly, in Georgia, a 19-year-old man named Exauce T. Kabeya drowned while hiking in Tallulah Gorge. Kabeya slipped into the river above Oceana Falls and did not resurface, leading to a search operation involving multiple state and local agencies. His body was discovered a few hours later.
In New Jersey, a 61-year-old hiker, Raghu Kodali, was found dead on a section of the Appalachian Trail after a large-scale search effort lasting 16 hours. The cause of his death is still under investigation as authorities work to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Furthermore, Utah experienced its own tragedy when a hiker was found deceased in Zion National Park after a massive search involving 33 individuals. Despite efforts to revive the hiker, including CPR performed by a doctor, the individual was pronounced dead at Scout Lookout.
