Murder Charges Upgraded for Man in Fatal Road Rage Incident: Victim’s Family Seeks Justice

Hopkinton, Massachusetts – A tragic road rage incident took a deadly turn on April 4 when 26-year-old Destini Decoff was struck by a vehicle driven by Ryan Sweatt, 36, of Milford. The incident, which occurred on Route 85 in Hopkinton, left Decoff with severe injuries that ultimately led to her passing away three days later.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian T. Ryan announced on Monday that Sweatt’s charges have been upgraded to murder. Initially, Sweatt faced charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, operating to endanger, and a marked lanes violation. However, the tragic outcome of the incident has led to the more severe charge of murder being added.

The fatal altercation reportedly began when Sweatt became enraged at another vehicle while driving. This led to a confrontation where Decoff and others exited their vehicle, resulting in Sweatt making a U-turn and striking Decoff in the roadway.

Decoff’s mother, Tracy Decoff, expressed her grief and determination to seek justice for her daughter in a heartfelt Facebook post on April 7. She mourned her daughter’s passing but also expressed a desire for her to be free from pain and suffering.

Sweatt is scheduled to be arraigned on the murder charge in Framingham District Court on Tuesday. The tragic incident has left a community devastated and seeking answers as to how such a confrontation could escalate to such a fatal outcome.

As the legal proceedings continue, friends and family of Destini Decoff are left to grapple with the loss of a beloved young woman whose life was cut short in a senseless act of violence. The community is left mourning and hoping for justice to be served in the wake of this heartbreaking tragedy.
