Reopened Lewiston Bowling Alley Honors Shooting Victims with Emotional Ceremony

Lewiston, Maine – The town of Lewiston, Maine, saw a glimmer of hope as the local bowling alley reopened its doors six months after a tragic mass shooting that claimed the lives of 18 people and injured 13. Just-In-Time Recreation, owned by Justin and Samantha Juray, resumed operations amidst a mixture of emotions from the community.

The bowling alley was a scene of horror when gunman Robert Card took the lives of eight individuals before moving on to Schemengees Bar and Grille, where he fatally shot 10 more people before taking his own life. The reopening symbolizes a step towards healing and resilience for the Jurays and the entire community.

Samantha Juray expressed the pain and challenges they faced, stating, “It’s never going to leave my head. I think if we don’t move forward, we’re just going to allow the people that have taken so much from us to win.” However, Justin Juray emphasized the overwhelming support they received from the Lewiston community, which encouraged them to take this step forward.

Among the attendees at the reopening was Colin, who was at the bowling alley during the tragic event. He, along with his family, joined in celebrating the lives lost and the rebirth of Just-In-Time. The support from patrons and employees alike was evident, with employee Tom Giberti highlighting the excitement surrounding the reopening.

Giberti, a hero who saved the lives of several children during the shooting, shared his harrowing experience of being shot multiple times and undergoing surgery. Despite his injuries, Giberti remains grateful for the outpouring of support from the community. The reopening also honored the victims with photos and memorials, signifying a sense of remembrance and unity within the community.

As the venue upgraded its facilities with new equipment and assistance from the Bowling Proprietors’ Association of America, the ribbon-cutting ceremony was a symbol of resilience and unity. Mayor Carl Sheline of Lewiston echoed the sentiment, stating, “This is us, standing back up again. With all of you here, it’s very clear. Lewiston can never be kept down.” The strength and unity displayed during the reopening signified a community coming together to heal and move forward.
