Shooter at Large after Fatal Courthouse Attack in Waterbury, Connecticut

Waterbury, Connecticut – Authorities are currently searching for the individual responsible for the fatal shooting of a man outside the Waterbury courthouse. The tragic incident occurred Thursday morning shortly after the victim concluded his court proceedings.

Attorney Ioannis Kaloidis of the Kaloidis Law Firm described the morning as routine, as he represented his client at the courthouse. After the client’s case was continued, Kaloidis bid farewell, unaware that it would be their final encounter.

During a subsequent court session, a marshal abruptly rushed out, instructing everyone to remain indoors. The unexpected commotion was due to news of the shooting unsettling the individuals inside the building.

Waterbury police quickly arrived at the scene and discovered a 26-year-old man from Waterbury suffering from gunshot wounds on State Street. Despite being rushed to the hospital, the victim succumbed to his injuries. Shockingly, Kaloidis later identified the deceased as his client and expressed disbelief at the tragic news.

Following the shooting, authorities determined that the perpetrator had fled the scene on a motorcycle before their arrival. Investigations are currently underway to profile the suspect using witness accounts, forensic evidence, and video surveillance footage.

Police Chief Fernando Spagnolo assured the public of the courthouse’s safety, emphasizing the targeted nature of the shooting incident. Despite the unsettling events, he encouraged individuals with court obligations to continue attending proceedings without fear.

Kaloidis recalled a similar incident six years prior, where another client had been shot outside the same courthouse in what police deemed a gang-related altercation. Reflecting on the recent tragedy, Kaloidis laments the lack of closure for his client’s case, as investigative efforts were abruptly halted.

The identity of the victim remains undisclosed as authorities intensify their search for the shooter. Anyone with relevant information pertaining to the shooting is urged to contact the Waterbury Police Department Detective Bureau or Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line.
