HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A man suspected of fatally shooting a woman at a gas station near the Museum District was apprehended after a standoff in west Harris County. Tilford Anthony Joseph, 46, was taken into custody following a confrontation at an apartment complex in the Katy area, according to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.
Deputies responded to a report of a weapons disturbance at an apartment complex on Westborough Drive, where they found the suspect barricaded inside. Upon further investigation, authorities discovered that Joseph was wanted for murder and aggravated assault of a peace officer, stemming from the shooting incident that occurred on Tuesday.
The violent altercation began early Tuesday morning when Houston Fire Department paramedics witnessed a domestic violence shooting at a gas station on MacGregor Way and Almeda Road. The suspect, reportedly involved in a heated argument with his girlfriend, proceeded to shoot the woman multiple times before fleeing the scene.
Following a shootout with a Harris County Precinct 7 deputy constable, the suspect managed to escape by stealing the deputy’s vehicle. He later returned to the scene, engaging in another exchange of gunfire before fleeing in his original vehicle. The deputy constable sustained minor injuries during the incident but is expected to recover.
Authorities later identified the victim as Teresa Houston, 44, an Alvin ISD staff member, who tragically lost her life in the senseless act of violence. The community mourns the loss of a dedicated professional who had been with the district for just one year.
