Teen Overpowered and Assaulted in Terrifying Attack: Rapist Sentenced to 12 Years

Middlesbrough, UK – A rapist in Teesside, UK, was sentenced to 12 years in prison after subjecting a teenage girl to a violent attack in a Whitby flat. Dwayne Anthony Rhoden, 34, from Union Street, Middlesbrough, lured the girl to a bedsit where he assaulted her, threatened her life, and prevented her from leaving before she managed to escape and call for help.

According to Detective Constable Matthew Edwards, who led the investigation, the victim’s bravery in reporting the incident led to Rhoden’s conviction. The attack occurred last year in Whitby, and the victim’s friend made a 999 call to North Yorkshire Police, prompting an investigation by the Scarborough and Ryedale Safeguarding Investigation Team.

Rhoden lured the teenager into his rented room, where he physically assaulted her, leading to a harrowing experience for the victim. After approximately an hour, she was able to flee the scene and seek assistance from friends and law enforcement. Rhoden faced charges for multiple offenses, including rape, sexual assault, false imprisonment, and failure to comply as a Registered Sex Offender.

During the trial at York Crown Court, Rhoden was found guilty of nine offenses and received a 12-year prison sentence, with an additional three years on license. Detective Constable Edwards criticized Rhoden’s deceitful behavior throughout the investigation and trial, emphasizing the victim’s resilience in seeking justice against her attacker.

The judge’s sentencing reflects the severity of Rhoden’s crimes and serves as a reminder that offenders like him will be held accountable for their actions. The victim’s courage in pursuing justice was commendable, and authorities encourage individuals in similar situations to seek support from helplines and advocacy organizations.
