HANCOCK COUNTY, Ohio – Residents of northwest Ohio are currently engaged in the cleanup efforts following a series of severe storms and tornadoes that swept through the area on Thursday.
The National Weather Service has confirmed that an EF-1 tornado touched down in southwest Hancock County near Jenera, causing damage to several homes and farm buildings during its 6-minute duration. Additionally, law enforcement verified another tornado in southeast Hancock County near Vanlue, designated as an EF-U due to insufficient information for a traditional EF rating. This tornado traveled a path of nearly 1.3 miles.
Moreover, an EF-2 tornado was reported in neighboring Crawford and Richland counties, leaving a trail of destruction that impacted numerous homes, outbuildings, trees, and power poles. Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries or fatalities resulting from any of the tornadoes in the affected area.
Multiple tornadoes were observed across the region, including in Logan County, Ohio, where officials have sadly confirmed at least three fatalities. Governor Mike DeWine is scheduled to visit the impacted regions to assess the damage firsthand and engage with residents affected by the storms.
The community has come together to share videos and photos capturing the destruction caused by the tornadoes, showcasing widespread damage such as leveled barns, roofs torn off buildings, and vehicles covered in large hail. Through collective efforts, residents are now working diligently to restore and rebuild their neighborhoods in the aftermath of the natural disaster.
As cleanup and recovery efforts continue, local authorities urge residents to remain vigilant and assist one another in the process of rebuilding their communities.
