Chicago, Illinois – Authorities have apprehended Xavier Tate Jr., 22, the suspect wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of Chicago Police Officer Luis Huesca. Tate was charged with first-degree murder after an arrest warrant was issued last Friday. The Chicago Police, in collaboration with the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Task Force, managed to arrest Tate in Glendale Heights, a suburb west of Chicago.

Tate was reportedly found in a second-floor apartment in Glendale Heights, where he was taken into custody using Officer Huesca’s handcuffs as a symbolic gesture. Residents of the apartment complex expressed shock at discovering the wanted man had been hiding in their midst.

The incident unfolded when Officer Huesca, a six-year veteran with the Area 2 Priority Response Team, was fatally shot on his way home from duty in uniform. The tragic event, which occurred on April 21, prompted a large-scale investigation that eventually led to Tate’s apprehension. Following Tate’s arrest, a relative identified as Caschaus Tate, 20, is facing multiple charges in connection with an unrelated burglary in Richton Park and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon in Chicago. Officer Huesca’s funeral was held on Monday, where hundreds gathered to honor his memory and pay their respects.

Described as a pillar of strength and larger-than-life personality by his friends, Officer Huesca’s untimely death has been ruled as occurring in the line of duty.
