London, UK – The National Investigation Agency (NIA) made a significant breakthrough on Thursday by apprehending a suspect in connection with the violent attack on the High Commission of India in London in March 2023. Inderpal Singh Gaba, a UK resident from Hounslow, was taken into custody in Delhi for his alleged involvement in illegal activities during the protests that occurred on March 22, 2023. The NIA disclosed that the incidents in London were part of a broader scheme to carry out vicious assaults on Indian diplomatic missions and officials. These attacks were reportedly in response to actions taken by the Punjab police against pro-Khalistani separatist Amritpal Singh on March 18, 2023.
The agency had previously conducted searches at various locations associated with individuals suspected of participating in the attack on the High Commission in London. A group of approximately 50 individuals was responsible for the attack, which included charges of criminal trespass, desecration of the Indian national flag, destruction of public property, and harm to High Commission staff. The attack was orchestrated by Gurcharan Singh of the Dal Khalsa in the UK, Avtar Singh Khanda of the Khalistan Liberation Force, Jasvir Singh, and their accomplices, comprised of both Indian and foreign nationals. In an effort to collect evidence, the NIA dispatched a team to the UK last year and initiated a “crowdsourcing of information” campaign to identify and obtain information on UK-based entities and individuals involved in the alleged conspiracy.
