DOVER, Massachusetts – The deaths of a wealthy Indian-origin couple and their teenage daughter, who were discovered in their $5 million mansion last week, have been determined as a murder-suicide by medical authorities after conducting an autopsy.
Rakesh Kamal, 57, and his 54-year-old wife, Teena, were found dead alongside their 18-year-old daughter, Ariana, in their 11-bedroom, 13-bathroom mansion. A firearm was found near Rakesh’s body, and the Norfolk District Attorney, Michael Morrissey, described the tragic event as a “domestic violence situation.”
An autopsy confirmed that Teena and Arianna were victims of homicide by a gunshot, while Rakesh died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The gun, consistent with a .40 caliber Glock 22, was not registered in Rakesh’s name and he was not licensed to possess it, according to Morrissey’s office.
Massachusetts State Police are investigating the origin of the firearm, having reached out to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives for assistance. Despite previous indications of domestic violence, there had been no prior police reports or domestic incidents related to the home, the Norfolk DA said.
The couple, who owned a now-defunct education systems company called EduNova, had faced financial difficulties in recent years. Their mansion had gone into foreclosure and was eventually sold for $3 million.
Teena, an alum of Harvard University and Delhi University, was listed as the chief operating officer of EduNova, while her husband, Rakesh, held executive positions in the education-consulting field. Despite their financial struggles, their daughter, a student at Middlebury College, was known for her involvement in the college choir and her studies in neuroscience.
