LMPD released a detailed 64-page report of its findings, clearing Officer Cory Galloway who fatally shot the perpetrator, citing his actions as justifiable under the Kentucky Revised Statutes. Officer Nickolas Wilt, who also responded to the scene, was shot in the head but survived, making a public appearance at Louisville’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
The rifle used in the shooting was seized by the ATF as part of its investigation and subsequently destroyed at the ATF’s National Firearms and Ammunition Destruction Branch in Martinsburg, West Virginia, 350 days after the tragic event. Additionally, a lawsuit was filed against River City Firearms, the gun seller, on behalf of six victims and survivors of the shooting, highlighting alleged oversights in the sale of the firearm.
