Shooting in Killeen Leads to Tragic Fatality and Suspect Suicide

Killeen, Texas – Authorities from the Killeen Police Department, Copperas Cove Police Department, and the Lampasas County Sheriff’s Department are working together to investigate a tragic shooting incident that resulted in the death of one individual and the suspect taking their own life in Lampasas County, according to a statement released by KPD.

The harrowing event unfolded when KPD officers responded to a distress call in the 6300 block of Taree Loop in southwest Killeen around 2:48 p.m. Upon arrival at the scene, they discovered a male victim with gunshot wounds, but the suspect was nowhere to be found.

Reports indicate that the alleged shooter contacted emergency services themselves to report the incident, which led to a subsequent encounter with authorities. Copperas Cove Police located the suspect’s vehicle and initiated a traffic stop in Lampasas County. Tragically, the suspect opted to inflict a fatal self-inflicted gunshot wound, as confirmed by KPD.

It is important to note that no law enforcement officers discharged their firearms during the conclusion of this tragic event. The Lampasas County Sheriff’s Department, alongside the Texas Rangers, will be overseeing the death investigation within Lampasas County. As the investigation progresses, the identities of the victims have been withheld until their next-of-kin have been informed, as per police protocol.
