SAN DIEGO, CA – In the early hours of Tuesday morning, a tragic shooting occurred in City Heights, resulting in the death of a 33-year-old man. The incident took place in the 4000 block of 36th Street, as reported by the San Diego Police Department.
Upon arrival at the scene, patrol officers discovered the victim gravely injured at the residential complex where he resided. Paramedics rushed the man to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. At this time, authorities have chosen to withhold the victim’s name until his family has been notified.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim was standing in the apartment complex courtyard when the assailant approached on foot from an alley and shot him in what seems to be an unprovoked attack. Following the shooting, the perpetrator fled on foot towards the alley.
Authorities swiftly identified the alleged killer as 32-year-old Edgar Sanchez, a relative of one of the apartment complex residents. While detectives were still examining the scene, Sanchez was spotted in the vicinity and apprehended. A firearm was found in his possession at the time of his arrest.
As of now, no clear motive for the deadly shooting has been provided by the police. Sanchez is currently being held at San Diego Central Jail without bail, awaiting his arraignment on Thursday afternoon.
