Venezuelan nationals targeted in fatal Bronx shooting: NYPD

Police in New York City, New York, revealed that the victims of a fatal Bronx shooting were identified as Venezuelan nationals. The incident took place outside a McDonald’s in Mott Haven, where a gray Honda Civic pulled up to a 2015 Nissan Rogue around 4 a.m. on Monday.

Adrian Mendoza, 24, and Jhombeyker Bisbal, 31, were inside the vehicle when a passenger from the Civic approached and then opened fire. Mendoza was shot in the head and body, while Bisbal sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his chest, arm, and shoulder. The shooter fled the scene on foot, leaving the two men severely injured.

Both victims were rushed to Lincoln Hospital, where Mendoza succumbed to his injuries, while Bisbal remained in critical condition. The authorities disclosed that neither man had previous arrests in New York, but both had encounters with Customs and Border Protection in Texas earlier in the year.

Law enforcement officials are currently searching for the Honda Civic with Virginia license plates that the suspect used during the attack. Despite ongoing investigations, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. The tragic incident underscored the alarming gun violence plaguing neighborhoods like Mott Haven in the Bronx.

Authorities urged anyone with information about the shooting or the whereabouts of the suspect to come forward to help bring justice to the victims and their families. The community expressed shock and grief over the senseless act of violence that claimed the life of one Venezuelan national and left another fighting for survival. As the investigation continues, residents in the area are calling for increased safety measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
