Teenagers Charged with Murder in Fatal Shooting of Garinger High School Student, Suspects Remain Unidentified due to Age

Charlotte, North Carolina – Two teenagers have been charged with murder in connection to the tragic killing of a Garinger High School student in January, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police. The suspects, whose identities have not been revealed due to their age, were arrested in relation to the fatal shooting that claimed the life of 17-year-old Daikwan Deese at the Shamrock Garden Apartments complex in east Charlotte on January 16.

During the incident, another 15-year-old was also injured but only suffered minor injuries. The injured teenager’s grandmother confirmed that both victims were students at Garinger High School. The community was shocked by the tragic events, with the grandmother expressing her disbelief upon receiving the news of her grandson’s shooting.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department disclosed that a 17-year-old suspect was charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury, and conspiracy to commit assault with a deadly weapon. Additionally, a 16-year-old suspect faced charges of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and conspiracy to commit assault with a deadly weapon.

Juvenile crime has been a growing concern for CMPD Chief Johnny Jennings, who recently traveled to Washington to address violent crime trends with White House officials.
